C25k: Week 4, Day 3

C25k W4D3 - snails and spiders and sprinkers, oh my! I took quite a dousing at the tail end of my run this morning. I guess my timing was off and the sprinklers came on just as I approached them. I don't mind getting wet (it's kind of nice, at the end of the run), but the sprinklers around here use lake water, which smells very sulfurous. I love the smell of sulfur in the morning. (Not really - if I wanted that, I would just stay in bed with my 14 year old gassy dog). All quibbles aside, the run went very well. On to Week 5!

Last night I finished up Week 2 of the pushup challenge. I have to take another endurance test to find out at what level I should be doing Week 3. Even the lowest level looks pretty darn intimidating...

In other news: this morning I weighed in at 179.9! I was shocked, considering what I've eaten in the last few days. Let's see: There was home-made pound cake made for me by a client. There was "Lobster Monster" sushi from Lemongrass, our favorite local restaurant. There was a big bowl of ice cream. There was brisket. I was really anticipating a weight-gain, so I'm very pleasantly surprised that I dropped .3 pounds and broke into the 170's. I should eat poorly more often! (Wait - you mean that's not how it's supposed to work?)

  3. Congrats on finishing Week 4! How hard is it to combine the 100 push-up challenge with the C25K?

I've created a blogroll for C25K runners and you're on the list!. You can find my blog and C25K progress at mindplunge.com. Let's motivate each other! If you know of any other bloggers running the C25K program let me know, I will add them to my blogroll.

    Keep on running!

  4. *laughing* Is this really a blog that keeps track of your running and eating, then if you gained or lost weight?

  5. Well...um....yep, Nevis, that about sums it up. :-) It's just a way for me to track my fitness and keep myself motivated. I try to make the posts entertaining should anyone happen to swing by and read it.

@mindplunge: Thanks! I'm not finding it too hard to combine the pushup challenge with C25k, since one works the upper body and the other the lower, and I'm doing them on alternating days. Actually, though, I need to get back into the swing of things - it's been more than a week since I've done either. I need to get re-motivated again.

  6. Yay, you're running again, & doing the hundred pushups challenge. And congrats on the weight loss. Bravo on all counts, Dan!

  7. Dan, great job on week 4 and the weight loss. I think the weight loss means your body is becoming more efficient through your exercise. Keep up the great work.

  8. Hey Dan,

Just wanted to say I'm rooting for you. I have been reading your blog ever since I started C25K myself (back in November 2007.) I always check back every so often to see how you're doing! It can be tough sometimes to keep up with fitness goals, but over the past couple of years you always got back on the horse eventually. Keep at it.

  9. Come on Dan, you can do it. Don't give up now. You've done it before you can do it again. Get those sports shoes on.

  10. Thanks, newyorkchick and anonymous (if that is your real name)! I've actually been planning on making my 'big comeback' tomorrow. So unless it is storming outside, I'll be going for a run tomorrow.

  12. Doh, there's a minor error in the above link I listed: If you follow the Runner's Circle link & then remove the slash from the URL & reload the page, the link works! ;-) Here's the correct link. Please excuse the typo!

  13. Hey Dan,
Haven't heard much from you lately, but hope all's going well with your running & pushups! Seems like it's a bit quiet here -- Are you still working out & just not posting, or has everything ceased to a grinding halt?! Hope you are continuing to find fun & excitement in your workouts!

  14. Definitely haven't given up on running, cyberpenguin - I just have been waiting for a new phone armband to arrive. (I run early mornings, while it is still dark, and take my phone with me for safety. I got a new phone, and needed a new armband to fit it). Had to order it. It arrived this weekend. I was going to run this morning, but wound up staying up past 3 AM and couldn't rouse myself for a 5 AM run. I will tomorrow, though. I'm looking forward to trying out the armband to see how it works.
